It was the perfect plan.
In the 1970's there was a very wealthy man who owned a private island in the center of the Bermuda Triangle. He was a very greedy man, and very rich. Many supected him of murder and theft, but there was never any evidence. Once he had settled on his little island he felt very bored. After reading a short story called "The Most Dangerous Game" (by Richard Connell) he had an idea.
Travelling to the main land, he set a bail for many deadly murderers and told them to come to his island. When they arrived he told them of his proposal: a hunting trip, with people as the game.
The selected a fairly large group of people every year, usually somewhere around twenty, and set them on the island to fend for themselves. They were all very ordinary people - servers, nurses, secretaries, students, some unemployed. People who didn't own much, those who wouldn't be missed. For years this went on, but as time progressed the wealthy man died, leaving his entire island to the hunters.
Over the years they improved. The used tranquilizers instead of bullets and, to be more "sporty" they designed the guns so that the projection would be slower, giving their prey a bit of time to dodge. They also had knives or daggers as back-up weapons, too.
Their prey weren't so lucky. They received some gear: a canteen, a bag, one knife, and one change of clothes [usually from their own luggage]. How did they get them to come? Simple, they'd take a plane. Always one that was empty of anyone very important, usually with only one flight attendant. They'd go the wrong way, to the Bermuda Triangle, create a clever excuse to consficate any electronics [cellphones, iPODs, laptops, etc], tell them there was something wrong with the plane and initiated an emergency landing: right on the island. The passangers would be instructed to evacuate, but once they were out the plane would be off again. Then a hunter would greet them, instructing the of what they were about to go through.
Not only did they have human hunters on the island, he'd tell them, they had animals. Panthers, bears, wolves, tigers, coyotes, sharks near the coast, snakes, as well as nice animals such as deer, rabbits, etc. Most prey won't be killed on the spot, instead they'll be captured and taken to the hold, where they'll have a chance to escape in between days of torture and/or neglect.
Now the year is 2010 and the game is still in progress with some of the greatest hunters still hunting down seemingly helpless people. Will you be a hunter, strong, intelligent, and deadly? Or a prey, struggling against all odds just to stay alive?
